This Christmas, we’re giving two people the chance to explore Byron’s Nottingham on a romantic break inspired by our notorious rebel. Your adventure will start with a guided tour of Lord Byron’s ancestral home, the beautiful Newstead Abbey, where you’ll explore the Victorian room settings and the poet’s private apartments, before a decadent cream tea in their charming caf!. The expansive and atmospheric grounds make for an idyllic walk with a loved one, following paths that meander past lakes, ponds and waterfalls into beautifully manicured formal gardens.
After an afternoon taking in the scenic abbey which left such an indelible impression on our rebellious, romantic anti-hero, a warm welcome and delicious meal awaits at the Fox and Hounds, traditional country pub. Cosy up in the snug with a glass of wine and enjoy three courses of home cooked goodness.
Your home for the evening will be the historic Colwick Hall, once the grand country estate where the Byron family resided for over 150 years before they moved to Newstead Abbey. Some years later it became the residence of Lord Byron’s childhood sweetheart Mary Chaworth, immortalised in Byron's poem The Dream. Now a luxurious hotel, the magnificent Palladian-style Georgian country house mansion is the perfect place to while away the hours and whisper sweet nothings.
