? Name of pension provider

My son worked for an employer in 2001. He had, from what he can remember, a personal pension paid through his salary. He can’t remember the name of the provider and he no longer has the paperwork. He’s tried the Gov UK website but can’t get anywhere because he can’t fill in the name of the provider. Is there any way he can trace this pension?

I've you've not already tried this, the first suggestion would be to try contacting the original employer if they are still around, or the company that may have taken them over. If the company went under completely, does your son know anyone who was working there around the same time who may be aware of their pension position ?0

Was this the pension scheme arranged by the company for employees - a group personal pension scheme perhaps?
Has he tried contacting the employer?0 -
Well, he’s now told me that it wasn’t a company pension. He got a allowance towards a personal pension. This was before employers had to provide pensions.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

He received an allowance so that he could start a pension of his own.
He did actually open the pension?
If so, one would have expected him to have been receiving annual statements.
Has he moved house since 2001?0 -
Yes, he opened a pension. He says he got statements at first ( he lived with me then). He has moved house3 times since then.He received an allowance so that he could start a pension of his own.

Which rather begs the question why the statements aren't still coming to your address. Have you moved since he started the pension?
Suggest he contacts TPAS: https://www.pensionsadvisoryservice.org.uk/pension-problems/making-a-complaint/common-concerns/lost-pensions0 -
Possibly if the pensions dashboard actually does come into being it may in the end be helpful for this

Has your son obtained a new state pension statement?
Is there any indication that his personal pension from this time was contracted out?

Try searching for his NI number on https://www.pensionslink.com/0
