Delay in remortgage completion

I'm due to complete my remortgage today. I received this mortgage offer from HSBC almost half a year ago. I have asked the solicitor a few times ahead of completion whether they had everything they needed and each time they confirmed yes they had everything they needed and there's nothing to worry about.

On completion today they said they had not received my identification document. I was a bit annoyed but I did send over my id document promptly (again) today. Late this afternoon they confirmed they were still waiting to confirm my identify (presumably they use an external agent to confirm my identify) and that completion would happen tomorrow. They confirmed they had received the release of funds from HSBC and would be able to pay my older lender tomorrow.

My question is: would I be paying a higher interest rate (basically my old lender SVR) for today because my remortgage fail to complete today? Do I have a case to claim compensation against the solicitor because it's a failure on that part to complete the remortgage today? The solicitor is on the HSBC panel and they come free of charge.

Thanks a lot.

Is the difference in one day's interest between the SVR and your new rate worth making a complaint about?

Probably not in monetary sense but isn't the principle what matters?

They almost certainly didn't guarantee to you that it would complete yesterday as opposed to today, so I'm not sure what the principle is.

The "principle" is that everybody wants compo for even the slightest mistake by a company nowadays, they see an error as a chance to cash in as society makes us believe we deserve it if something goes wrong in any area of life.

    Leeches.

Companies don't make mistakes. People do. There would be uproar if deductions were made from pay.
