This is a great find Crabman and deserves a bump for all those that may have overlooked it... I have just got the upgrade and all it took was a quick free phone call... :beer:0

thanks also see http://racsmiles.co.uk/index.php?s=essentials
for a free winter kit (doesn't say what it includes)0 -
surfsister... getting hold of that freebie isn't quite so easy... you have to log in with your details then you get this message:
"The winter months are a particularly bad time for windscreens. Frost loosens stones on the road and gritting doubles the chances of cracks and chips. Help however is at hand.
With a nationwide network of over 125 fitting centres and more than 800 mobile units, there’s no-one better placed to repair or replace damaged glass.
To find your nearest fitting centre and book an appointment call 0800 404 7665. When you arrive for your appointment show your valid RAC membership card we’ll give you an RAC Winter Motoring Kit, worth £22.99, absolutely free.
The kit contains de-icer, ice scraper, heavy duty gloves, replacement bulb kit, blanket, tyre safety kit, torch with batteries and a mini first aid kit. All contained within a grey canvas holdall."
It implies that you have to have an appointment for something but have not phoned to find out if that is the case... if anyone does please post your findings... cheers....
Thanks surfsister... could be a pretty handy freebie if its not too tricky to get... :beer:0 -
Although it says policies expiring before 31st March 2008, the customer service staff seem happy to apply it to policies expiring after that date. Worth a try0

Update on the "free" RAC winter motoring pack... just phoned and you do actually appear to have to have some work done at an RAC windscreen place (hence booking an appointment) to claim the free pack... or at least thats what the lady told me on the other end of the phone!!
If a few other folk want to try it to see if they get anywhere then its a freephone number... 08004047665... obviously you need to be an RAC member!
Keep us posted, especially if anyone is successful... my nearest centre is miles away, I did ask if they could put one in the post... you can guess the answer to that!!! :eek:0 -
Great, thanks for this - actually this is all very useful information for me.
I've just joined RAC (courtesy of Tesco Clubcard points!) and have a chip in my windscreen that needs repairing. There is an RAC windscreen centre just down the road too... (and before anyone mentions it, no I'm not fully comp so don't get it repaired free). So I will definitely be checking this offer out.
Thanks very much all. Another worthwhile visit to MSE!!
Update: phoned RAC windscreen centre and they charge £75.16 for repairing a chip! Local guy only charges £30.... so I guess the free winter kit won't be coming my way.....0 -
I got my new cards through today inclusive of the 'At Home' cover. Thank you for posting this offer!0

I have RAC Roadside, which is coming up for renewal.
Reading the terms of the "Fair Call" scheme, for the number of call outs per year, it says for personal single cover
that 5 call outs are allowed.
Underneath it says Basic Cover
ONE call out per year.
Can anyone elaberate on this and does it refer to the cover I`m on.0
