New year, new job? Or stick to comfortable and 50% happy?

This has been on my mind for a while now, as I've not been enjoying work as much as I used to. (My main job, I have a part time one too) I've been in my job for over 13years now. The job is getting more challenging (with no extra money) for those challenges.
I work with children, but education has started to change and the pressures are much more than they were years ago.
I've never felt so stuck and pulled with such a decision. I have always LOVED my job and the people I work with, but recently I've started to dislike going to work. Not because of the people (well maybe a few!) but because stress levels (all staff) are so high and the enjoyment feels it's totally lost.
I don't know if is this just a blip and one of those moments or If I really need a job change, but if I do (feeling I might) I have absolutely no idea what I want to do!
I don't know if I want to continue working with children or need a change? Then I'm worried if I change not working with children I might miss it and want my job back? The grass isn't always greener phrase keeps popping into mind.
I have always thought myself to be happy in whatever you're doing because life really is too short, but when push comes to shove to be honest I'm terrified!
Do I make a jump, breathe deeply and it could be the best thing I ever did? Or stay comfortable and steady away with a job I know inside out?
Has anyone else felt this way and made a huge jump? How did it end? Best thing you ever did? Or worst?
Been trying to sleep for a while, so this is clearly playing on my mind.
Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

I understand how you feel.
It's easy to keep going because it is (mostly) comfortable but I do not want to sleepwalk through my life.
I have a job I don't hate but don't love either (and once I did)
The pressures have increased and the salary hasn't.
I have managed to get a sabbatical for the next 4 months, so I have time to think out where I go from here.
I don't have any advice I'm afraid but I do understand the dilemma as it is mine tooIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I've taken the leap!
Similar story: in a job I used to love, after a number of changes I don't feel the same way, salary is pretty good and I know it inside out. Very comfortable!
However, an internal role came up doing something slightly different for another team in the business and I've gone for it. Starting in January. Hoping it was the right choice!0 -
Savingafortune-good luck and keep us updated on how things turn out!
I'm still totally undecided as to what to do, but hoping the Christmas break will shed some light!0 -
I was you - not getting enough challenge from the job but staying because it was close to home, comfortable and the annual leave was better than I'd ever get if I moved elsewhere which was a huge plus point for me.
Then I got made redundant and had no choice - turned out to be a blessing in disguise. New job is stressful but in a different way, pay the same, but making the change gave me a new lease of life on the employment front.
Plus once you've moved once and lost that security etc, it becomes easier to move again if things don't turn out as you hoped.
Having said that, without the redundancy I may well have stayed in my comfort zone.
Do you have any ideas what you might like to do instead? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Glad you're sorted now Elsien and things worked out for you.
I have no idea what I want to do, which is another big problem.
Still very undecided on what to do to be honest, which makes me nervous entering 2019, but just need to try and sort things out moneywise first I think-I want a good, comfortable emergency fund behind etc. Want to get to £10,000 before I make any drastic changes etc0
