Worth ringing Halifax for better retention deal

Firstly I know Halifax retention rates on their web site are poor and there are much better deals out there from other lenders.
Has anybody managed to get a better deal by ringing Halifax or is it a waste of time?
Long time customer, mortgage of £116'000, LTV 44%, excellent credit rating if it helps and no issues with any perivous applications before.
No real reason for not switching other than I can't switch until Feb and fear the rate will raise before then so tempted to grab Halifax 2 year deal now at 2.29% and then look again in 2 years. Anything better than 2.29 would be a bonus.
Thanks

With respect I can never understand anyone asking this question. If you don't ask you will never know yet if you do you might just get a surprise. Nothing to lose and much to gain.0

Halifax won’t negotiate. Why would they? Pricing decisions are made centrally and the frontline staff don’t have the ability to override.0

ringing will not get you a better deal without going through a credit check and new affordability checks e.t.c.
Your not haggling for a SKy renewal I'm afraid"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Does your local supermarket give you a discount because you buy from them regularly?0 -
Thanks all. I don't expect Halifax to be very helpful but was hoping (more than anything) that somebody had managed this. Looks like I'll have to stick with what they are offering for now or bite the bullet and move when I am able. There are a lot of deals out there that are fees free including free legals and validation. Yes this effects the rate but their 5 year fixed is still a better rate than H's 2 year fixed rate.
I'll relook at my options and decide whether to risk waiting until Feb and do I then also want to go through the checks of moving.Regards,
Dave

A remortgage offer lasts three months or longer, so you can do it now and complete in February.I am a mortgage broker.
