New Bank Job DRO

Options
Hi everyone

Without being too specific on a public forum, I had a debt relief order a few years ago and it was discharged successfully the year after.

I applied for a job with one of the new mobile app banks and I've been offered the job. Of course there are background checks and reference checks, but will I automatically be denied the job because of the dro?

Really want this job, surely they can't punish you forever? I thought only 'full blown' bankruptcy would affect a bank job

  • Hi

How long has your DRO been?

My DRO 6th year reached and was off my report summer this year

    I've had some strange experiences:
(I like to think things have changed over the years)
2013 Insurance temporary job in large insurer withdrawn (at this time I was within memorandum period and apparently I should have answered the bankruptcy question as yes apparently, never forget the horrible worded twisted question which gladly I've not come across since)
2014 Through an agency I was accepted for a temporary job as a bank cheque processor in some sort of service centre. (Did full disclosure at time of application as soon as I could)
2018 Modern finance company declined continuing application as said they needed to see the DRO off report - To be fair they did say as soon as it was off I could have a shot at re-applying.
Later in 2018 and within a month after DRO dropped off - insurance broker/outsourced insurer said yes. (got through checks and disclosed from the offset as soon as given the chance to declare) as soon as I was exposed to the finance system I understand why they must make checks.

You are ok pretty much as long as you answer what's needed. If you haven't reached 6 years then I would declare regardless. In most recent experience they tend to ask outright rather then beat around the bush.

did the application ask if you have been bankrupt or insolvent in a time period or ever before?

if you were honest on what was asked, then shouldnt be an issue
  • Thanks for your replies.

I haven't yet been asked anything (not even if I have criminal records, which I don't by the way).

The reference and background checks will start this week and I presume the question will come up.

If it says ' have you ever been bankrupt' do I say yes or no? - I don't want to mislead them but at the same time dro is not the same as bankruptcy is it?

DRO and IVA are also types of insolvency, so will depend on the question asked.

    1) Have you been bankrupt in the last year? - NO
    2) Have you EVER been Bankrupt or entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) - NO
    3) have you ever declared insolvency - YES

some loan application etc will state IVA, DRO and Bankruptcy individually, some just ask for general insolvency, so difficult to say what you will be asked
