Advice regarding laundry expense claim

Upon reading the threads regarding washing work uniform at home, I sent a a letter to the tax office in which they replied back stating that they have sent a letter to my empoters H/O.
But this was 4 months ago so I wrote to the tax office again and they said that they haven't received the information from my employer yet to process the claim. So, I then wrote to my employer's H/O (left now) two weeks ago asking about the information but they still haven't replied back yet.

I don't know what to do now? If my ex employer won't provide the information, does that mean I can't make a claim? I am really frustrated with my ex-employer as I worked there for years and left on good terms!

Do you know what information HMRC are requesting from the employer? Are you sure that you qualify for the expense claim or did you just ask your Tax Office for it to be looked into?

I expect HMRC are asking the employer if employees are required to launder uniforms themselves. Its very petty of them not to reply.
You could approach your employer yourself directly and ask them for this confirmation.

They sent me a copy that they sent to my es-employer and they basically want a confirmation that I wear a uniform that there's no laundry facilities at work.
I can't really speak directly to my ex-manager about this as these stuff are usually dealt with H/O. If I don't receive no reply back today, I'll probably write an email to H/O compalining that they haven't met my request.

Write direct to HO - it's their responsibility, not your ex manager's anyway.

That's the thing, me and the HMRC have but had no reply back for them. Do you think I should email my human resources dept or the tax office (no sure if they have one)?

There is no point in emailing the Tax Office as they are lacking the inforamtion as well! I would write in strong terms to HO.

Can you not provide the proof yourself? Normally your contract of employment (or staff manual) would include a clause that you are required to wear specific clothes as part of a uniform.

Another idea though, are you sure that the tax office have actually written? Some of their "advisers" aren't above telling porkies to get someone off the phone if they can't be bothered at the moment in time to look at something properly.

Sorry I meant the tax office of my ex H/O. The HMRC need a wrtten doucment of the confirmation so I can't use the handbook as the source.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

Was it a large organisation you worked for?
Possibly the tax office that deals with your old employer may be aware of the circumstances, as they will no doubt be dealing with laundry claims from current employees.
It may be worth you writing to them and asking them to confirm the details to your current tax office.

Well, a week ago I sent a snotty letter to HR of my H/O stating how I am annoyed that no one has supplied me with the information and that after 4 years of service, the company won't help me.

HR replied back saying that they don't usually deal with these tax claims but as a goodwill gesture they will send me a written confirmation about my uniform. So, I replied back saying how else am I going to get the confimation and that they have a duty to respond to my requests.

I am glad that they are sorting it out but I have to wait another week as the HR lady 'has urgent business matters'.

    Thanks for all yours help.
