Account frozen with wages in

I have recently gone bankrupt and I recently had a conversation on the phone with Barclays about whether my basic account would be frozen after bankruptcy or not. They told me it wouldn't but it turns out they were wrong. Yesterday my account was empty but I could view it. Today, the day my wages went in, it was frozen. Does anyone know if there's anything I can do? Will my wages now be seized by the official receiver leaving me with nothing to live off for the next month?

In hindsight I should have opened a separate account or told my employer to hang fire a short while but I've only just started work there a month ago and I didn't want to be sharing all the personal details of my life with them.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I'm really worried :(

  • Contact the Insolvency Service and advise them what has happened and they can contact Barclays to say they have no interest in the account. It's your bank who have frozen it not the OR.

They shouldn't have any interest in your wage as it's the money for you to live for the week or month.

Hi there. Before applying for BR I opened an account at Nationwide which had no overdraft so no debt affected by BR. I assume you opened your Barclays account for the same reason. At the interview the OR said she would write to Nationwide to say IS had no interest in the account. After a few days Nationwide had not heard from OR and so I emailed my OR and the "no interest" letter was faxed direct to Nationwide. My account wasn't ever frozen.

It is the bank that freezes the account, not the OR, so first ring the bank to check they have had the letter from OR. If not ask Barclays if there is a suitable fax number and then contact the OR to chase up the letter. The account should then be unfrozen prompltly. Fingers crossed.
