Never tried it myself. If its partially frozen then I think you will be okay. The slow cooker takes a while to get to temprature and will more than likely finish the defrosting.

Did you add hot liquid or cold?

If you added hot you should be ok, just whack it up to high temperature for a bit (half an hour plus) when you get home. If in doubt, cut into it and see how it looks.

If you added cold liquid then I wouldn't like to say, as it will have taken a lot longer to get up to temperature.

I think so yes, but don't take my word for it!

  • Hi Carlore
How big is the joint of beef and has it gone on whole or chopped?
also how many hours will it be on for minimum?

reason I ask is i've just checked my slow cooker book and it suggests for a raw joint weighing

    1 -1.6kg - 2-31/2lb it should go on for 4 - 10 hrs low or 3-6 hrs high.
1.6-2.3kg- 31/2-5lb it should go on for 7-12 hrs low and 5-8hrs high.

so if it's on high it should be fine but i'd give it an extra hour or so.

Or stick a skewer right in the middle and feel if it's hot

alternatively you could take it out, carve it and lay the slices in a shallow dish with some of sauce spooned over in the oven for 20 mins-ish? (this worked for me when i forgot that my friends didn't like rare beef - and the sauce covered some of the pinkness!!!)

As long as you make sure it's cooked right through it will be just fine, and you'll be able to tell this easily enough, as it will be hot in the centre when you carve it.
