Warmest jacket for the winter?

Any guesses which of these two is likely to be the warmest for sitting around outside in the coldest nights of the UK winter?

  1. https://www.mountain-equipment.co.uk/lightline-jacket
  2. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/arpenaz-1000-parka-mens-waterproof-jacket-black-id_8343842.html
Of course this one is probably the warmest but I can't justify the cost so need to find a slightly cheaper apternative:

I have great fAith in mountain equipment, their items are good. Never heard of the make of the other jacket but it does say in the blurb that you need to be walking at 3 miles per hour to be warm. You say you will not be moving. The company I bought my cold weather jacket from is phdesigns.co.uk. Their jackets are expensive but certainly do the job.
  • my bf wears QUECHUA ARPENAZ 2 years and he's satisfied with a purchase
  • Well I ended-up buying the Mountain Equipment Lightline. Won't know until the weather cools down whether that was a good choice or not.
  • Mountain Equipment are a great brand so I'm sure you'll be happy (and warm). 90/10 is a very good ratio - 700 is warm. I have an Arete which is 700 and it's been great. I've only swapped wearing it for a Columbia jacket which is similar warmth with complete waterproof finish as I was getting too wet in this horrid weather and the Arete is only water resistant.

Lightline is only a bit more water resistant:
DRILITE® Loft outer; totally windproof and highly water resistant
time will tell just how waterproof "highly water resistant" actually is.
  • Well I have bought a Lightline but not worn it outside yet. Having had time to look at it further one thing I notice is although it feels like it will be incredibly warm.

However it does not really feel robust enough to describe it as an expedition quality jacket:
The zips, although YKK ones but are a relatively light nylon model of zip. The outer pockets are very deep which is good but there are no inner mesh glove pockets or similar.
The hood has a wire supported peak but this does not return to shape, it is just plain fence wire type stuff. So if you sit down th in jacket with the hood down the wire in the peak gets all distorted.

I do have some concerns about just how long this will last, overall it just doesn't feel robust enough.

Was needing a new UK winter (cold & wet) jacket last year so did some online research and narrowed it down to Mountain Equipment, Patagonia and ARC’TERYX.

Went to some outdoor shops and everyone of them recommended the ARC’TERYX. After a year am very happy with the warmth, weatherproofing and general quality. Bit expensive but expect good long term use.
