Restoring faded black jeans

  • I finally got round to dyeing my jeans today - and I'm thrilled! :T I used Dylon Velvet Black, and, as per weight instructions, dyed 2 pairs.

I washed them first, and then dyed them damp. After the dyeing, and prior to the recommended washing cycle, I wiped the rubber seal several times, as this seemed very badly stained. I also used an old rag to ensure that I mopped up the water in the reservoir, that hadn't drained away.

I then washed them, and again wiped the rubber seal, and then ran an empty hot wash. I will certainly take the advice given to do a couple more dark washes, before any light washes.

I left it till today because I was actually quite nervous! However, I am so pleased with the results, and would like to thank everyone for their helpful suggestions and advice.

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. :)

Well done on your successful mse dyeing, Sandra Scarlett :-)

It's a good idea to turn black, navy or slogan and imprinted things through before laundering.

    Dry them similarly.

Glad you managed to dye them successfully .....
When they need a wash, I'm a great fan of Woolite......it's in a black container amongst the Liquid wash stuff. Wilko's definitely do it and it's great for anything black or very dark.

I've made a note of that, and will definitely use this - thank you too for this suggestion. MSEers are such a knowledgeable lot and I am so grateful for all your help.

I know some people just buy new jeans, but these are now discontinued, and they are soooooo comfortable. They fit above the waist and I call them my Harvest Jeans, because All Is Safely Gathered In! ;)
