No they don't. I've got a number of different solar lights in the garden, and most don't work very well even at this time of year, in fact a lot don't work at all. Sun is very low now, so most are never in direct sunlight, and even those that are really do very little.

There are plenty of quite cheap low voltage lights that you can use in the garden, provided the plug/socket and transformer are in shelter. I always have a few, connected to a timer so they come on and go off at set times, and they usually have 10 metres or so of wire, which could be extended I suppose. Best time to buy is of course just after Christmas!
  • I know this post is old but it still ranks highly in google on the subject of solar christmas lights so I think it's worth commenting. I bought a set of 100 Noma Multi-Function LED Solar Powered Christmas Lights last week and I was really surprised by how much of a charge they did get on dull rainy days. We've only had one particularly sunny day this week yet the lights turn on at 4:30pm (approx) everyday and are always still going when I get go to bed at around 11:30 so that's 7 hours at least in winter conditions! I'm very impressed. I'm telling everyone about them now.

I guess solar panels have moved on a lot since 2007. Merry Christmas everyone!

I got a solar powered security light the other week evo56, its been up 2 weeks today. I would say 4 days out of 7 have been dull and although it only runs a minute or two a day with comings and going to house its been fine thats got a small solar panel (2w output) and 56 led bulbs. Its not brilliant light but okay for what we want to greet people coming to do
