Certainly not one dimensional - you have already said that she has had and is having a happy and fulfilled life.
But not to offer a person the chance to be literate, to be able to take charge of his own finances, to research information for himself etc is to make it much more possible for him to be a victim.
And it closes off the opportunity for him to lose himself in a good book....:)0
