NHS pay scales and spine points

OK within each grade for the NHS there used to be increment or spine points. These are gone now I believe. But theres still a wide range for say, a grade 5.
Am I right in saying that if you move from one grade 5 to another grade 5 you don;t go back to the bottom?
I can't see why anyone would take a same grade job otherwise because it could be a massive pay cut?

they are still there, just not yearly.

Indeed you go back on the same point, or the next point up. You can always be cheeky and ask for an incremental rise. I have been offered a band 7 post, and am currently band 6. They used my payslip to work out what my starting pay will be, so they went for the point which paid more than I am currently on.
I am taking on a new role, so wasn’t cheeky to ask for more ..0 -
Moving "sideways", you will usually maintain your current pay point, as above thi it never hurts to ask.
Under the new scales, the overlap has/will be phased out.
Therefore, anytime you gain a promotion to a higher band, it will always attract a high wage.
With our trust, this was always the case anyway under the old scales.0 -
Isnt the increment scales based on years of experience now?
Worked out what happened. Payroll managed to accidentally cancel assignment number a few months ago (don't ask, someone with similar name retired and they did wrong one - then couldnt revert to gave new assignment number).
So of course, new assignment number is only a few months old - so gone are 10 years of experience. Looks like someone didnt think of that.
Sometimes the way the admin functions of the NHS work scares me. They ALWAYS screw things up.0
