Paid in Arrears... what will it mean for me?

Hi Everyone,
I start a new job on 3rd Jan 2019 and my pay date is 25th of every month I am paid in arrears.
Does this mean I will only be paid from 03/01 to 25/01 or will I be paid from 03/01 to 31/01?
I'm sooo confused!

Paid in arrears means you are paid after you have done the work.
It depends how they do their payroll. Youll typically find that employers have a cut off period before your pay date so you might not be paid for all the work you do between the 3rd and 25th on the 25th and whats not paid then will be paid in your following pay.0 -
You need to know your pay period as well as your pay date to know for sure, and the only person to can answer that is whoever you're going to work for. Not "the internet".
That said, I suspect your pay period is per calendar month with payment on 25th of each month, meaning you're getting roughly 3 weeks in arrears and one in advance, rather than literally all in arrears.
But given the difference is only 7 days or so, does it really matter? And if your fiances are that tight that it causes a problem, then you probably have bigger things to worry about....0 -

You also need to ask them what their cutoff date for payroll is, and what information they will expect in order to add you. Minimum is proof of your right to work in the UK, plus your P45 (if you have one) or a New Starter Checklist downloadable from the HMRC website. But they may ask for more. Always worth checking what they want, and what they want you to do with it!Signature removed for peace of mind0
