You better write a letter to the landlord, and if he won't fine any solution then you will need to move out, and have all the rights to do it.

Is it just the sink which does not drain?

Does everything else work - shower/bath, washing machine (if any)?

If it's only the sink, get as much water out as you can using a cup or something similar.

Now get a load of towels and put them under the sink. Next, look at the drainpipe immediately under the sink - it's about 40mil diameter and has either a U-bend in it or could be a P-trap.

Either side of this should be a large screw/nut which is only hand tight.

Undo the 2 big screws and remove the bend - anything left in the pipe should be caught by the pile of towels.

Now that you have the bend off see if that is blocked and if it is it can be cleaned out by pushing paper towels or a bit of rag through it. You may have to put the bend inboiling water to soften any fat which may be present.

Next, put the bend back and tighten up the screws and see if that has cleared it.

This reminds me of a problem I had with a house I bought nearly 40 yrs ago. The water took a long time to empty from the wash basin in the bathroom. I removed the U bend and as well as the usual collection of gunk and hair, there was a pencil! Presumably the previous owner's child had dropped it down there and not told the parents.
