Travel claim on self assessment

I am wondering if I can claim for travelling to the US on business even if I spent some time over there not on business. I hear different opinions on this.

Thank you in advance for any help

Are you a sole trader or are you trading via a limited company?

What proportions are we talking about, i.e. how many days were genuine business and how many days were personal?
  • Thank you for responding. I am a sole trader. About half the trip was business. I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't for business.

Without more detailed information, that would lead me to say that half the total costs would be allowable and half not.
