Mortages for over 55s

Im in a bit of a pickle. Don't have any savings or deposit and would like to buy a house in the future. I have had a house previously but sold it and since used all the money from the sale to live on having been out of work at various times. My family and I are currently living with parents so have no equity. Im concerned that I wont be able to get a mortgage now because I'm over 55. Will banks simply say I wont have enough working life left in me so they wont grant a mortgage ?

  • It would depend on your retirement age and the plausibility of you working until that age. For example there won’t be too many brick layers still working at 70 but it’s not out the question for an office worker to still be working at that age.

So yes you can obtain a mortgage after the age of 55 up to your retirement age if you are only using your employment income and depending on lenders max age criteria
