Council Tax Rebanding Refund

2008 successfully went from band E to D, backdated to 2006. Now, having lost a bedroom (demolished unsound seventies first floor side bathroom extension and made tiny bedroom into bathroom) am reapplying to go down a further band (as fewer bedrooms) having looked at 1991 values, neighbours banding, etc.
On researching, I notice talk of refunds of council tax when rebranded downwards. I got no refund in 2008. Has there been some error in this or were there no refunds in 2008?

A refund should be made for each year where the band reduction generates a credit. You would need to check with the council but there a few different circumstances where a credit would not be generated based on the specific circumstances.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
The VOA tend to compare dwellings on their size rather than number of bedrooms. So if dwellings of a similar type and size to yours (following the old bathroom demolition) are in a lower CT band, then you have a good chance of your band being reduced. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
