advise please

hi, before i found this wonderful site i took out a dmp with THE DEBT ADVISOR,i know,i know did not know about the FREE debt companies, well just had my 6monthly review and found they take £50 a month:mad: , i thought they would just take the 1 off payment and that was that. how naive was i!!!. my query is can you change your DMP and go with one of the charitable ones, or would it be to much hassle to change,as they have £300 of my money that could have gone towards my debt i feel abit agrieved by them.
thanks for listening

I'm not sure Chell, but I'm sure someone who does will be along shortly. Have you called CCCS or NDL and asked them?

I would be interested to know, as potentially the answer could help a lot of people who use this board.

    Hello Chell,

I do not have experience of DMP, so am just giving this a little bump so that more knowledgeable folk can respond.

    Best wishes

  • Although they already have your £300, they'll grab another £50 for every month that you're with them, so ditch them asap as this could well amount to thousands if you're on a DMP for several years.
I ditched Baines & Earnst years ago without any problems.
Firstly, check the T&Cs of any agreement you've signed with The Debt Advisor to see if you'll end up paying more penalties than any savings you'll make by leaving now. It may be that you have to stay with them a certain length of time before you can leave freely.
Then contact the free ones (CAB, CCCS, Payplan etc) with your findings & they'll advise you of the best way forward.
