Room sharing on business trip - options when I dont want to??

Not anything like as extreme as the situation the OP is in, but we had an 'All company' event which included an overnight stay and formal black tie event in the evening. There were a few of us who had no formal wear (male and female) and the company refused to pay for hire. We attended the function during the day, as that was within normal working hours, and then came home. Some senior managers weren't happy but there was no long term issue.

I would absolutely hate that and refuse to go point blank. It would mean someone would see me undressed as I went to bed and showered and stuff, and be in my room as I slept, that would be far too stressful to handle.
