2009 Bankruptcy and Current Barclaycard

I was made bankrupt in 2009 and everything has been resolved years ago. It hasn’t been on my credit report for some years.
I’ve currently got a freedom rewards card with Barclaycard. I’ve been having issue with trying to increase my credit limit. I want the increase to collect the points on some expensive flights that I need to purchase shortly. I always pay in full now I’ve learnt my lesson. When I try online it gives me a message that I can’t increase due to having another account that’s not linked to my current online profile and to contact them. I spoke to a agent today who had the same issue and couldn’t increase the limit. The agent advised that I had an account in collections and this card needs to be linked.
The account must be the barcycard that was linked to my bankruptcy. I advised the agent to leave everything alone for the time being. I don’t want that old account to suddenly appear on my credit report. I work in finance and could lose my job if a default appears on my credit report.
I thought under GDPR these account details should have been erased. Part of me wants to write to barcycard to see why they are still holding this information but other part of me is afraid to. I don’t want to poke the bear and have an issue to resolve.
What does everyone think about this?

I work in finance and could lose my job if a default appears on my credit report.
That would be a deciding factor for me.
In fact, now that an agent has said that a card should be linked, I would be slightly concerned.
As for an increased credit limit, 2 options:
1. could you get a new credit card elsewhere with sufficient limit (or possibly pay some on each)
2. can you add money to your card now, thus creating a negative balance that would be sufficient to pay for your flights within your current credit limit.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I think I will leave it be and hope for the best. It’s not amajor issue I have an amex Card with a 12k limit so I can use that if they take amex that is. I have a Natwest card that I can use but there are no rewards on that one.
The agent did say they would leave everything alone so fingers crossed they do. If the default does re appear that would be a serious complaint for barcycard.
My employers know about the bankruptcy as I was asked in the application if I had been made bankrupt and I answered honestly and it wasn’t even mentioned ever, not even at the interview.
If the default appears I’m sure they would give me time to sort it out as the debt has been written off as per my bankruptcy in 2009.
I didn’t expect this to re appear almost 10 year later. I’m fortunate barcycard gave me another chance to be honest.0 -
Creditors can keep internal records indefinitely should they wish.
In practice old records will be deleted eventually, although the norm is usually 6-7 years Barclaycard seem to keep them longer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Well they haven’t suspected my account or anything my card worked fine today.
I thought under GDPR with your right to erasure you could request records over 6 years to be deleted as long as the account was closed. That’s how it works for the company I work with. Records are deleted after 6 years of account closure.0 -

Nope.
Right to erasure

The 6 years rule has nothing specifically to do with GDPR. Under GDPR I believe you can request "to have personal data erased". Obviously, if you asked Barclaycard to erase your data, they'd have to close your account.
Your are, of course, aware that your bankruptcy record lasts forever?0 -

Not in the slightest.
You can ask at any time.
They can refuse if they have reason.0 -

Yes I am aware but I’ve not had any issues getting a job in finance or any issue once the 6 years are up. I now accept that barcycard can keep the information. It clearly not an issue for barcycard as they have issued a card even with my past problems.0
