Firstly there is no way on God's earth I would put panels on the front elevation of that house.

I would suggest you will devalue it at a stroke by a few 10's of £1000s.

Don't do it at any price.

As for EPC - I am sure they are often nonsense - I routinely now see solid walled and floored mid war semi's scoring nearly C ratings when they have zero insulation beyond the loft. Correctly done they might have got a middling/high E.

Lastly OP you do realise with slate you will have at least 30 cut holes put in your roof - say 200 by 100mm.

Slate does not like to be disturbed and the flashing kits are far from ideal as indeed are the means of securing the reinstated slates (slate roofs really need to be remade from the lowest disturbed point up ward to the ridge - in your case the entire roof remade).

Be sure that whoever does this is competent, has done it before, understands the MCS regs and cares about your roofs long term integrity.

Personally I would not fit solar to that house and that roof it was free.

This is a worry for us - but where else would we put them? Or no renewable energy for us at all? Air/ground source is not really viable for this old house without ripping it to bits inside to put in the underfloor heating. The barn would be East/West and probably not worth doing then. Ho hum. Racks brains and twiddles thumbs.

I did not know that - thanks - oo- it's hard - I want to be greener but I dont want to ruin the house or devalue it. Should I put them in the garden? we have an acre

EDIT: Talking to hubby - we may as well wait. Our FIT would be a pittance anyway - maybe a different government would do something better for green energy. We have places we can put them in the garden eventually but not right now as we need trees felled [they are being felled it's just a slow process]

Sometimes it is easy to get carried away because there is a deadline looming, and it needs someone to say what you are thinking to make you realise you are pushing for a conclusion too hard.

    hi
You could put up to 10 Kw of panels in the right orientation to give optimal roi and still have room for sheep to grace.

los and lots of overgrown trees :rotfl: the garden has been left to go wild and there is very little light now - we are in the process of clearing almost all of t - but taking huge trees out needs to be done slowly. We've found two large ponds buried in a massif trees and shrubs, and I mean LARGE, we didn't even know they were there. Eventually we will have space for a large ish array I'm sure. At the moment the roof is the only available space.
