Hi all,
I want my son to talk a supplement of Omega 3, he is suffering from Dyspraxia and Attention Def. Two that come to my mind are:-
EyeQ and Biocare Lipocell.
Any idea which is best, I see that EyeQ was used in the Durham Trials.
Any other suggestions would be great
Thanks

The important thing with omega 3 is obtaining an effective amount of EPA and DHA, the essential fatty acids.
Many nutrition experts suggest people consume at least 4% of their total calories (approximately 4 grams) as omega 3 fats. Trying to use the supplements you have suggested as a main source of omega 3's is going to be expensive.
How can I get more omega 3 fatty acids in my daily meals?: answer explains how generally getting more omega 3 in ALL you meals through the day
omega-3 fatty acids: foodsources
Netto's sardines in tomato sauce cost 18p a tin and each tin supplies 2g omega 3 (1200mg EPA + 800mg DHA.)
2 EyeQ capsules contain 186+58=244mg omega3 roughly an eigth of the sardines yet cost 25p
Eicosapentaenoic Acid(EPA) 186mg
Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) 58mg
Evening Primrose Oil (omega-6) 200mg
of which:
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 20mg

Ingredients typically per teaspoon (approx 5ml)2.25g Fish Oil Concentrate (providing 1050mg EPA and 750mg DHA)has a more sensible amount of omega 3 1800mg total but at 40p a tsp it's a bit pricey.OJ Omega 3 Juice 360ml 5.95 = 8p daily for 900mg EPA + 600 DHA=1500mg omega 3
Some parents find it's difficult to persuade their children to take this regularly. My grandchildren and I have no problems at all. We keep ours in the fridge so it's as cold as possible and we never let the bottle warm up at all so it's out of the fridge into a tsp and back in the fridge, before it's starts to reach room temperature.
You need to look carefully at the EPA and DHA numbers and see what percentage of the 4g - 4000mg you need daily, the supplement is providing and at what cost. Assuming you meet your daily intake target it will take some time, probably over 12 weeks before status will be significantly improved. You have a lot of cells in your body and most have a use of EFA's.

Rethinking brain food
This months issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. there are 3 omega3/brain stories that are relevant here.
one concludes
In the elderly, a diet high in fish and fish products is associated with better cognitive performance in a dose-dependent manner.
The more fish a person ate, the greater the effect. People who ate about 75 grams a day of fish had the best test scores.
A portion of oily fish provides about 2.09 g of omega3.
The second says
plasma n–3 PUFA proportions were associated with less decline in the speed-related cognitive domains over 3 y.
Finally a New Zealand study of more than 2,400 people found a strong and consistent association between circulating concentrations of the omega-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid and physical health and a less compelling link between omega-3 fatty acids and mental healthMy weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Euvitaminservice Still too pricey for me. But if you buy 2 you don't pay postage. It works out at £23 for 2 so £11.50 for 7fluid oz = 200ml so only 40 servings per bottle but 1.4g omega3 each.
It's a lot more money than Zipvit omega juice but certainly a better quality product. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
