David Lloyd

Does anyone know what tool David Lloyd uses to measure the distance of 10 miles to and from its club? Yes I've read the terms and conditions. I've just moved and according to Google 15 miles away ( quickest route). On this basis and providing all the relevant documents I asked DL could I cancel my membership under the Ending your membership clause. Needless to say they said no. I must still give 3 months notice. They said I am actually only 6 miles away and of course they may be right I don't know! I went to the Trafford Barton embankment club and I have moved to Bowdon. They then said I could go to their Cheadle club and again this is miles away even with a car. Also I don't have a membership that allows me to use multiple clubs. Obviously if I have to do the 3 month cancellation then I don't have a choice but just wondered. I would be unable to maintain the level of fitness I built up at DL if I have to drive half an hour to their club several times a week.

  • Should have scheduled your cancellation three months prior to your house move.

No point trying to "fight' this because you'll get nowhere.

Ah I had no idea I was going to move so suddenly dear otherwise I would have. I was in private rented then suddenly got offered council housing within a matter of 2 weeks. So either way distance or move I would have been asking them the same thing.

Show them google map says 15 miles and ask them how they calculated the 6 miles. If they say 6 miles is for another branch then you will have to transfer your membership to the other location I guess.

I never understand why David Lloyd have this policy. I was a member 12 years ago. I was worried about threatened redundancy so gave in my 3 months notice. I then joined another club. I might have otherwise been at David Lloyd for the last 12 years. Where I worked loads of people were put off joining by the 3 months notice. One of my friends told me that every month he gave his notice in and then told them to forget it 3 month later. People move around for jobs and houses. If David Lloyd send the debt collectors in you are never going to go back there.

Hi All I did show them the Google map and they are currently reconsidering this policy and looking at AA maps in my case although I'm not holding my breath. Who in their right mind would want to find themselves driving 10 miles every time to use ta gym let alone 8 miles? The whole point of picking a local gym is because duuh! it's nearby and local! There is a map that they sent me supposedly on their website but I've never been able to find it that shows the distance in a straight line.

Did you just speak to the receptionist or a manager? Maybe try and speak to someone higher up if it was just someone on reception as they might be more flexible. If not and it's written in your contract I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about it.
  • Hi I got an email today from David Lloyd that they've immediately cancelled my membership HURRAH!!
