Hi all
I left my previous job in May, I worked there for 15yrs, it's was a local night club.
I was a security manager there looking after the door team, cctv so on
Never one issue while i worked there, would get called out at all time for police so on, had a good relationship with owner, aren't above and beyond and that was well recognised by owner so on
I had a lot of personal issues in May, they where well aware of the issues.
I left there area to sort my issues out, just vanished. Didn't even make contact to get outstanding wages
Can they give me a bad reference? Just got a new job and they will contact them for one
Thanks
Paul

They can give you a factual reference, how they word that might be "fyfeepaulie worked here for 15 years, was trustworthy and a good relationship with the team" or "fyfeepaulie failed to attend his shifts", both are true. If you had a good relationship with the owner why not get in contact with him?0

Hi thanks for the reply
Yeah I should give him a ring tbh, he will probably sound off at me but suppose it's the best thing too do
Thanks0 -
Just fwiw small businesses look kevthis might give a neutral reference; purely due to lack of knowledge.0

I think it's the ONLY thing to do! Apologise, remind them that they knew of your issues, you became overwhelmed, you didn't mean to land them in a difficult situation but for your own health etc etc. Practice beforehand what you want to say, try it out on a friend.fyfeepaulie wrote: »Hi thanks for the reply

Then explain that you are now in a place where you can work again, and this new job has come up and you hope they won't hold it against you, but please can they supply a reference.
It may also be worth talking to the new employer and explaining that you left the old job rather suddenly (again practice what you want to say) and this may be reflected in the reference.
Good luck ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Unlikely to be as bad as you think. I'm pretty sure he'll have appreciated your loyalty. Extremely difficult for a small business owner to find decent staff members (probably the greatest struggle of any small business actually).
He'll probably be glad to hear from you!1
