Edit to add: Title should have been, is it safe *entering*
I've always wanted to start comping but have always worried that you don't know what you're signing up to when entering competitions.
Are they generally safe or do you have to be really careful about reading terms and which competitions you enter?
Is there somewhere that lists the safe places?
Also I just came across this place - https://winit.landscapemagazine.co.uk/ do any regular compers here use it and do those competitions look safe to enter without you suddenly finding yourself signed up to a 12 month subscription or similar?
TIA

The "winit" sites (there are over 100) are listed here

they are part of Bauer Media who by value probably account for more web entry competitions than anyone else0 -
Most, if not all, of the competitions posted in this forum are "safe", the regulars are pretty savvy and will spot anything dubious and raise their concerns / get it removed.
You shouldn't ever pay to enter a competition so never enter anything where they ask for a card number or bank details or anything like that, you'll occasionally get a (purchase) competition but generally these are buy a packet of Walkers crisps and enter a code type thing.
So, no, you shouldn't worry about signing up to a subscription for anything as they'll never have any payment details, you might sign up for a newsletter but that's about it, you'll get the occasional spam email.
In regards to reading the terms, competition terms are generally pretty standard but again the regulars / competition posters will highlight any specific terms that might be non-standard in the original post or as a reply to it.
Lanscapemagazine and all the others listed in the mjm' link above are all good, I've won a few times with them but there can be hundreds of thousands of entries (they sometimes run for up to 2 months, you can enter daily and the same competition can run on about 30 sites (sometimes more!)) ... they're good if you're just sitting watching TV you can just fire them on your phone or tablet and not have to think too much about it.
So, Don't worry about it, setup a new email address so you don't get too much spam in your private address and give it a go, nothing to lose but time ... BUT ... don't believe the Daily Mail and think you can make a living off it by winning £30k worth of prizes a year, 'cause you can't
