Callumpster, why not cook the lentils first and then give them a blast with blender before adding them to mince, no chance of them being detected then.0

Mado got several recipes for dhal.
8oz red lentils
small piece of fresh ginger
3/4 tsp turmeric
2 tbsp oil or ghee or mix of oil and butter
1 tsp whole cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp garam masala
chopped chilli, fresh or dried, according to your taste
1 large onion sliced
1 clove chopped garlic
a pint water (or mix of water and tin chopped tomatoes)
Saute 1/2 onion and garlic in half of oil until onions softened, then add coriander and turmeric, add lentils and water, add ginger and garam masala. Bring to boil and simmer for about 20-30 mins. If liked blitz with hand blender
Meanwhile, heat rest of of oil/butter, saute remaining onion with cumin seeds and chilli until golden brown.
Serve dhal with couple spoonfuls of onion on top and with naan/pitta bread.
My quick cheats dhal
8 oz lentils
tin chopped tomatoes and some boiling water
couple tsps curry paste
Bung all together in bowl and microwave for about 15 mins, stirring every 5 mins, adding more water if necessary. Blitz with handblender.
Serve with onions as in above recipe and pitta/naan bread.0 -
for padding out - I use porridge oats with mince- sounds weird but works really well, if you use about 25% oats to 75% mince no one notices..0

I have done this in the past, and with anything starchy if you cook it long enough it takes on the taste of whatever you have cooked it with.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
