  • They will likely ask something along the lines of "You will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure - will anything show up?". Simply prepare a truthful response - you need to show that you are not a risk to the children or other staff, and as this role may include contact with money/ finances that you are not a risk there.

A written response is often used...
In 1995 (or whatever) I was sentenced to XXX, for XXX. I continue to be regretful of my actions on that day and have committed myself to upholding a lawful and moral life. I have done this by X, Y and Z.

There are a few organisations that will be able to offer support in this - thy Citizens Advice, Unlock or the Job Centre (not that the Job Centre is ever any use at anything!.)

    Good luck :)

In my organisation all employees and volunteers to through enhanced dbs checks as we work with kids and vulnerable adults. Obviously if someone were on the barred list they wouldn't be hired but with convictions each case is decided on its own merits. How long ago it was, was it a one off or a series of convictions. How old you were, we're there aggravating factors, how long was the sentence ( if applicable) or what was the punishment etc. What is your attitude towards what you did and what have you been doing with your life since.
My advice is mention it rather than let them find it. Explain what happened and be open about your feelings. Do you feel remorse or are you ashamed? What would you do now if you found yourself in the same circumstances? Reassure them that you have moved on.
