Mortgage advisor job

Options
Hi there,

I am new to the the industry and have just passed my CeMap. I am looking for a trainee role at the moment. Just need some advice on some points:
I am CRB cleared however three years ago I was arrested on physical assault ( false accusation) and nothing came out of it and there were no charges as a result. Now I am worried whether this may affect my employment chances as an advisor. I have been told it will not appear on the CRB as I did nothing wrong. Even though it will not appear on my CRB I ‘d like to declare this to any future employer. Will my arrest stop me to applying for an advisor role?

Many thanks in advance.

An arrest is not an issue.

I was detained once by the police and fined for fraud - which sounds really bad doesnt it. Until you explain that I jumped on the train as it was pulling away and travelled without a ticket. The train company decided to have a clamp down that day on fare dodgers and I was one of them.

It was not on my CRB check, but I disclosed it and nobody has had a problem with it.

  • I can’t see it being an issue.

  • I accidentally walked through the wrong channel at customs at a confusing airport.......whilst on my way home I was stopped and arrested under the "Prevention of Terrorism Act" and was told that the could detain me for up to 48 hours without explanation.......

Anyway for the next two years wherever I went in the world I would get "double looks" from the guy at passport control so there must have been "something" there.

Aside from that I have had numerous DBS checks without issue and work in the financial services industry with no problems whatsoever.
  • i cant see that being a problem - try not to worry

  • Many thanks for your responses. Sorry I have been away for a while. I have applied for an advisory role. I am concerned if I was to be offered the job, when should I disclose at the interview or after accepting the job. The reason for this I was working for a mortgage firm ( last job) and I was in an admin role, I did disclose this to my employer. Now I am concerned if I do not mention this at the interview my previous employer may state this in the reference.

    Any advise would be great.

    Thank you.
  • You are likely to be asked at the interview stage if the company have any sense.

If they don't - that should be one of your questions at the end of the interview.

You will be expected to complete a form of some case, I would always ensure this was mentioned even if you know in future, it wouldn't be considered. It's just about being trustworthy and of good character so to be upfront with it, only proves that you are. You also don't want to get right to the end of the process for this to then cause an issue...
  • Thank you .
