If you moved to a new job within the company and nobody seemed to know you were coming, it could be that one of the people within the section expected to get the job. If they are an 'Alpha' member of the group it could be that others are keeping in with that individual by blanking you. As long as they are not being actively negative, for example refusing to provide you with information required to do your job, there is a limit to what you can do.
Nonetheless, I would be inclined to speak to your manager about it. You may even want to preface the discussion by saying something like "I hope you don't think I'm over reacting but....." and see what comes of it.
The manager may be sympathetic but say there isn't a lot they can do; they might take action if they think it is affecting the effectiveness of the department; they might say you need to toughen up. Without the conversation they don't know the situation so aren't in a position to do anything.

I don’t feel I need counselling as I don’t believe I’m the one with the problem.

    But in the next sentence....

The only reason I’ve thought about counselling is because I’ve been signed off and my moods are very low, some days I find it difficult to get out of bed and I cry every day.

So you do think you need counselling to help with your mental condition which may have been caused by your workplace.

    I mentally exhausted.

    Not good

I think they probably wonder why I have been hired as I have no knowledge of the work they do.
As would anyone. Why did you get employed?

I’m trying to be good at my job but when there’s no training and people don’t talk to me it’s so hard.
What training do you need and what training have you asked for?

I did bring in sweets after my holiday as I was reminded by my boss who also failed to wish me a good hol that they have a “treats policy” people didn’t touch the sweets I had got from holiday, now if that’s not personal then I really don’t know how else to take it.

No idea what a "treats policy" might be but whatever it is, ignore it.

I haven’t gossiped or bad mouthed anyone, infact I don’t have anyone to talk to at work. I spend the whole day sitting in silence.

Really? You don't speak at work for an entire day?
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

  • No I don’t speak to anyone all day. I come in and say “morning” and sit down, the only time I speak is if I’m lunching with my old colleagues.

I’m only considering counselling because of how I feel :(
  • Treats policy is bringing in cakes/sweets after hols or birthdays, they forgot my birthday but normally have a team collection

I have no idea why I was hired as there are zero instructions when it comes to the work
  • So you don't not speak at work.

Did you apply for this job? Were you interviewed for it? Why did you think you were suitable? Have you asked for feedback as to why your employers thought you were suitable?

If things are as bad as you perceive then you need to sit down with your boss and have a chat. Being given support to be able to do the job would be a positive start.

  • Yes I did apply for the job but it’s not the same job I applied for, the job is completely different to what was advertised.

I am either given really complex tasks with no training or office junior jobs like photocopying.

My manager is aware of the training issues but she seems too relaxed to do anything about it.

My husband suggested I take in cakes for everyone as a form of “let’s start again” but I don’t think it will work as they aren’t the type to want to know me.

Thank you to all of you that have replied, I hope one day I can put this all behind me.

I would continue to press for it, being signed off alone isn't going to help you. (Keep on lunching with the old buddies too)

I thought 6 months in a department on my own was bad enough when I could and knew I could do the job required of me, let alone job fears still existing a year down the line. More recently while I had the very friendly colleagues I'd always dreampt for in recent times but it didn't stop the nightmares and being low, (yes I've experienced polar opposites) I just couldn't do the job to the company's expectation and my doctor actually started to mention SAD if nothing else - I knew I was moving forward.

While kudos to you for sticking it out a year, I think you need to have the conversation with the Manager outright, before sadly you can't get another role because of the sick record. When I had problems with Bob (another company where I temp'd and again same fantastic time of year...) it transpired he had a pretty regrettable condition, I didn't know would account for his actions until far to late and it reached a point where it was just not salvageable so have that word with Manager. x

Why are you doing a job that is not what was advertised? Have you spoken to HR? Were you aware you were being given a job that you were not suitable for? Why did you take this job? Could you go back to your old job?

I am either given really complex tasks with no training or office junior jobs like photocopying.
If you are unable to do the complex tasks have you spoken to your superiors about this? Do you have a copy of your job description? How far removed from this is what you are actually doing?

My manager is aware of the training issues but she seems too relaxed to do anything about it. Relaxed? As in they are happy that work is not done? Have you escalated your concerns?

I am sure you will be able to move on from this but there is work to be done......

I fully sympathise with you OP, I really do.

I sometimes get the impression at work there are certain colleagues who don't like me, if it was justified, fair enough... but like you I've tried to say hello and the way they've looked at me? Well anyone would've thought I'd killed their kitten!

It does get to the point where it affects how you feel and I agree you need to speak to your manager again about your concerns.

I hope they listen, I really do. If there's someone on the team who's being off because they wanted the position you're in then that's their problem-for whatever reason they weren't qualified to do the job!
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

They sound worse than school children! Sounds like a horrible place to work.

I hope you are not contributing to the team collection - I certainly wouldn't if I'm treated like that.
