commutation rate

Hi there just wondering is 18 agood,bad or average commutation rate

    I would have thought about average.

    Public Sector schemes are typically 12, and I have seen references on here to rates just above 20.


    The rate isn't the only factor to consider though, all depends on individual circumstances, how much pension provision there is in total, health, dependants and whether you "need" a lump sum.

    It's better than all the Civil Service and other public sector, which is 12:1, but probably not as generous as some private schemes. For reference, my current private company DB is around 18:1.
