waiting for tax rebate how long does it take?

I have filed an online tax return for the first time and am unsure of what to expect. I m due a healthy tax return ( whopee!) however they have advised me that mine is going to take longer than the estimated 10 working days as advertised because I have been selected for additional security clearance. I have had a terrible conversation again this morning with a very stroppy woman who told me that it is not additional clearance but is normal and that the 10 working day thing is more likely to be unusual rather than the usual.
Really struggling financially as new business is only 2 months old and needed the refund as cashflow. Has anyone else experienced this?
