  • Another debt payment went out today, as did our pension contributions and monthly savings contributions. OH's is brand new. Feels like we are creating really deep set financial habits right now!

Current debt stands at £80,580... we're getting there slowly but surely.

OH's business still mediocre - hoping it will pick up later in the month.

You've made some fantastic progress, charliedavis

Congratulations and well done for keeping up on the MS through the tough times.

My OH had to leave his job recently and we are relying on my income (and credit, again) to pull us through the next couple of months.

    Keep on keeping on!
  • Thanks adg89.

That must be tough for you, hope he finds something soon!
  • Work has been frantically busy the past few days and I feel like it's been an age since I updated here!

Spending for work a fair amount - staying in hotels and eating out with colleagues which feels wrong even though I know it's needed!

Took on another client for £340 per month which helps hugely.

I did however join the gym again which will wipe off some of this increase - which is £127 per month, mainly because my step counter was saying 1000 to 2000 steps per day. Stress is a major issue for me and I need to keep myself healthy. Yes I could technically go for a run outside but I won't... I take my 9 year old with me too which keeps her healthy.

Super pleased as our total net worth is -£80,106 and will drop into the 70s shortly - yay cannot wait!

Other changes are the fact I've got OH paying into his business savings every time he pays himself which means we are now covered for corporation tax. I've also started pre-paying my tax bill 7 months early to avoid any nasty shocks. I love being prepared!

Anyway hope you're all doing well too!
  • Wow what a long month January was! Finishing up with a new net worth of -£79,391.27 so just scraped into the 70s - yay!

We could have paid off more though to be honest, grocery spending was waaaay over. I know exactly why - OH's business was struggling meaning we bought groceries here and there rather than in big cheap shops.

Also an expensive month for oil and electric heating.

OH has got into a good habit transferring money ready for corporation tax into a business savings account.

Still, we are £3,182 better off than on 31st Dec so all round I think we can feel fairly pleased with our progress.

I would certainly try to be more careful if our debt levels weren't going down so fast! I have ongoing stress/anxiety/panic disorder diagnoses for which I'm on medication and have had for the last few years, so looking after my health pays for itself. Without my health we'd be on a debt management plan for sure and in deep trouble! :-)

It's perfectly understandable - just the cost seems high. My wife is a member of the gym/spa at the local 5 star hotel, it costs £100 per month and comes with a free massage (every month) that would cost £80 on its own and once every 12 months they give you a free stay in the hotel which costs £300 per night for a basic room. Yours looks expensive by comparison!
