Mortgage for over 60

Apologies if the answer is posted elsewhere, I am not the greatest at searching. (no excuse I know)

I find myself at the age of 62 starting again and although I was initially looking to rent I have been left some money, £35k, which has made me wonder if a mortgage might be a possibility.

Currently 62 with a pension of £27K p.a.

£7K credit card debt (interest free of course) paying off at £300 per month.

(Soon to be) OH is taking on existing mortgage on what was our home.

My credit score seems to be okay as far as I can tell.

Are there any recommendations for lenders that I might approach over others?

Thanks for your time.

Did you mean soon to be ex, rather than soon to be OH???
  • My apologies for the misinformation and typo.

My OH and I are splitting up, fairly amicably, and I am starting afresh in the property market.

You can edit your original post.
  • I suppose I could edit the original post but not sure if that would make much difference to my question.

    Do you think it would?

Without knowing where you live and the cost of properties in your area and what your hoping to buy we have No idea if your plan is possible.
£27,000 is not a bad annual pension and you will get your state pension in 3/4 years time.
Why not consider over 50/55s long term rental !
Your pension would cover the rent and leave you a good income to live on.
£35K in the bank would pay for some nice holidays or running a nice car

It would, stop, people being confused ! Especially if we then deleted the rest of these posts
  • "Why not consider over 50/55s long term rental !"

    What is that?

I know the cost of properties in the areas I am looking at.

The rental/mortgage costs are comparable which is why I am asking if anyone in a similar situation has a recommendation of any lender(s)

    Are people confused?

If so, once again my apologies, however I am unsure as to how my mistake with my original post makes much difference to my query.

    To clarify.

I am interested in a mortgage. I am over 60. Does anyone who has taken out a mortgage when over 60 have any advice as to lenders?

    Hope that is clear.

So from that, the situation could be, your ex moved out, you've met someone new,(the "soon to be OH") they are taking out a mortage on it and you'd like to be joint with them

I suppose it could be anything you want it to be.

None of that is relevant and indeed all is wrong in the case you have posited.
