Aspheric lenses for eye glasses.

I've had reduced thickness lenses in past, but have recently been reading about aspheric lenses double sided. They apparently, according to some reviews, significantly reduce so called bug eye. Over or under magnified.. I've just popped into Specsavers for a chat, and was told they just reduce thickness and make no change to magnification.
Be very helpful if any of you guys have any experience in this field. Or know of an active forum I my gain some info.
Kind regards

Aspheric will reduce some of the magnification for some prescriptions but they're not going to work miracles. Most decent opticians would dispense an aspheric as standard when selling an upgraded lens to someone who needs it, they wouldn't bore you with the technicalities.
For example if I had someone who was +7 and they paid for 1.67 index lenses I'd automatically order them 1.67 aspheric lenses, to not do so would be negligent of me, particularly when I worked as an optical assistant and part of my role was bonus based and I could lose wages if a customer needed their glasses remade because I didn't sell them good lenses.
The caveat is you need to choose a good frame, your pupils need to be as close to the centre of the frame as possible. It should be round and small. There's no point shelling out for high index aspheric lenses if you're a high plus and want giant square frames that hang off your head.0 -
Thanks for reply.
Though I'm not sure I understand. Youre saying they might/may not reduce magnification/make eyes small/not small 😆.
So is the review here BS.
"Aspheric lenses eliminate the "bug-eye" appearance that can occur with glasses for farsightedness. The image on the left shows aspheric lenses; the image on the right shows unwanted magnification caused by conventional lenses"

Yes, optics isn't black and white, it's shades of grey.
Frame selection is a huge part of it, if you pick a ridiculous frame for your face then no lens in the world is going to help. A big square frame for a plus lens is a non starter, the best lab in the world, using the thinnest lens type can't make that look good and you'll still look ridiculous and your lenses will still be thick in the middle.
I've looked at people wearing glasses and thought "wherever dispensed that should be shot" but sometimes you can't talk people out of stupid choices.0 -
