For me, any business which takes the matter of client data security seriously quite simply does not send out this sort of e-mail. In my own firm, this would be a clear breach of the Client Data Security policy which is sent to all new clients, and to all clients each time it is updated.
It is just not OK for the national tax service to behave like this, like a bunch of spivvy spammers. I am serious. If HMRC can't be bothered to do e-mails properly they should not do them at all, this sort of e-mail just makes it easier for the spammy fraudsters who prey on vulnerable people to steal their funds.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0 -
But these are things which mark something out as spam even if this isn't.
That I think is the essence of the OP's post, and is a serious one.
It's not good enough that HMRC and others don't send out spam - they shouldn't send out stuff that looks as if it could be spam, or lulls people into ignoring features that might be a giveaway to a real spam from a lookalike fake site. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
