New York has the same population as London but in half the space, so it's certainly possible to double Londons population density if you have the appropriate infrastructure

But we won't be removing the Royal parks (green, st james, hyde etc) or buckingham palace etc anytime soon.

Personally I don't think we should build loads more just to make housese cheaper.
There are other things we could do like penalising empty properties, 2nd homes, btl, foreign buyers etc. rather thn tarmaccing the earth.

It would be fairly to increase density if you had a blank canvas but without demolishing large numbers of property I don't think you could drastically increase it.

The ONS have projected 2m more people in the London area within a decade.

Even within this, 1m of those will be Newham/East end.

I'm not knowledgeable on this, but do you even have enough space for a million new homes in London?

Is it time to drop greenbelt protection there?
I'm not sure if dropping green belt itself would solve the problem as inside m25 it's mostly to east where transports links aren't that good.

Hasn't 30 billion of public money gone into Crossrail, Crossrail 2?

I'm sure I read somewhere that London has the highest per capita spend on transport in the UK.

In some ways you can understand it. It's very difficult to upgrade major developed cities. Hong Kong built an island for their airport!

You will need attitude changes too I suspect.

That Centre Point high end development is being left half empty. If they had developed smaller/good value units I am sure they would have all been sold. Are high end developers chasing a dwindling market?

I bet it will take decades to solve London housing, if at all.

It might well have but you wouldn't notice it if drove around or caught a train in rush hour.

In general I don't think the currently planned improvements are going to make things better, they are just going to stop it getting much worse.

We had over 4 years of M60 gridlock on a stretch of the motorway, for some smart signs "upgrade".

The predicted saving? A few minutes per journey, though nobody really believes it will come to fruition.

I do believe that some parts of our transport network are close to capacity for big chunks of the day.

That's certainly the case for most commuter routes into London and M25 is terrible even in 6 lane parts, to be honest is really bad travelling around inside M25 I try to avoid it. I've heard the M6 around Manchester is pretty bad it was when I drove home from Lake District in the summer.
