Are Supplements Recommended?

2»

Comments

  • Yes, supplements are good if you take only original product and take it in the right quantity :)
  • I strongly recommend turmeric capsules and krill oil. I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and am also recovering from previous injuries. Turmeric is known for its anti inflammatory properties and krill oil is great for supporting muscular and joint recovery. I also recommend a Elaine’s arnica pillules (available at boots). May you all be in good health.
  • Zinc seems to help if you've got a cold coming on, but I wouldn't take it every day.
Women may need iron at certain times of the month, but again, you shouldn't need it all the time.
Omega fish oils do seem to help if you don't get enough of this in your diet.
  • If you have a specific deficiency (as diagnosed by a doctor) then supplements may help. But beware - if, for example, you take extra iron, it could mask anaemia in blood tests, which could mean that potentially life-threatening illnesses would be missed.
Not very likely. If taking iron as directed by a GP (or otherwise) how would you think this is monitored?
    By FBC, transferrin, UIBC levels.
Just IMHO and as I see it,

Try to take sunbath, change your diet, increase the intake of protein and vitamins by food.
If this ^^^^ is advice to sunbathe, it should also recommend that adequate sun protection should be applied regularly.
Skin cancer is likely to be more of an issue than whether to take supplements or not.

I completely agree, and would like to point out that sun protection prevents forming any vitamin D from the sun anyway, so sunbathing is certainly not a good recommendation!
If you check out the other short and inane or self-contradictory posts by this new forum user across a number of threads that have appeared in a short space of time, you'll probably end up joining others in hitting the report or spam button to help keep the forum a better place.

I rarely check other posters' activity unless they've posted something provocatively self-contradictory or inflammatory, so thank you for pointing this person out!
Edit: In the time it took to write my initial comment, they've disappeared anyway :)

I'm reading "How to Eat Better" by James Wong, which is wonderful on plant nutrition. He discusses the Public Health England report. He points out that the (money saving!) basic button mushroom is one of the healthiest kinds of mushroom, and just three of them can provide the full recommended daily intake of Vitamin D. To get this from other sources you would need to eat 10 eggs, or a can of tuna, or a kilo of turkey breast!

BUT mushrooms have zero vitamin D to start with, you need to stick them on the windowsill, preferably gills up, for an hour or two, anytime between 10am and 3pm - even gloomy light will do.

Isnt going to work in England, sorry, but its not true.
The whole 'Mushrooms can have vitamin D' thing is a con.
They only produce Vitamin D2, which is no good unless youre getting the same amount of D3.
D3 comes from exposure to the sun.

We are all getting deficient in D3 because we are not going out as much and when we do, we are using far too much sunscreen.

The best way to get Vitamin D is to get outside and dont use sunscreen straight away.

The supplements are beneficial for health, but I use to eat more fruits and vegetables that contain all the vitamins and nutrients necessary...

I haven't read the other posts yet, but there's a VERY strong theory that taking higher vitamin d is crucial. I'm taking 50mg of vitamin d , and am content this is a serious issue . This is above the recommended amount, but I've also discovered compelling evidence that hasn't been published. I started increasing my vitamin d uptake through supplements( I don't normally take supplements) BEFORE I got Covid . I think it saved me. I've had Covid, initial symptom, mild dry cough. I recognised this symptom immediately .I then had numerous other symptoms , including (chronic ) tiredeness( dont fight it when you want to sleep in the day for 2-3 hours) this has gone but 6 weeks later am still tired sometimes.
