Not sure what you mean by chicken joint? Do you mean a whole chicken?
I personally wouldn't buy the cheapest as its quality will show but I do appreciate that some people really don't have a choice
Have you tried my supermarket?
I would guess at Asda but I dont ever shop in Aldi or Lidl so I am sure someone can help as to whether they are cheaper.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. I agree that OP needs to make choices about the origin of the meat but I'd say thighs are the cheapest joint for cooking (not much meat on a wing!). I prefer thighs for casseroles, far more tasty.0

Unfurtunately a lot of chickens these days are "rubbery". I don't like rubbery chicken, it doesn't matter how you cook it it is still rubbery!
Exception to this I have found is the Butcher's Choice whole chickens from Asda; around £5 a bird (not rubbery chicken!); or the Butcher's Choice chicken breasts as those are plump and don't seem to be pumped full of water (which you see when you cook chicken). Those chicken breasts are about £10 a kilo but worth it. Butchers Choice are from their butchers counter, they use the black/brown trays and cover with clingfilm.0 -
Willow Farm = fictitious made up name = formerly Tesco Value.PK! :money:0

1.4 kg chicken = £1.60 per kg
That does appear to be the cheapest
I was in Lidl today and their deal is a 1.25kg chicken for £1.99 I think - that would be the same per kg. Not sure how much meat there would be on that but I always think potentially there's 3 meals to a chicken:
1. A roast dinner
2. A curry using the scrappy bits
3. A chicken broth by boiling the carcass.0 -

as opposed to all the other slaughter houses where the chickens patiently wait in an orderly queue and have a cup of tea and a hob nob whilst they wait to have the stun probe forced down their throat before having their head cut off0
