Moorcroft debt from BT

Hi all,
After some advice dealing with a small debt from BT that has now been passed to Moorcroft my missus originally spoke to BT and i have no knowledge of the conversation
A debt of £538 has been passed to Moorcroft after a contractual dispute with BT. I admittedly ignored this after i changed provider as i dont recall agreing to BTs services.
Im still trying to ask BT for the original conversation that took place previously as to see if I mistakingly verbally agreed to a contract . Im not 100% but for a couple of months we asked if the contract rolled over and paid for a rolling contract when I decided to go with sky.
According to the letter a misspelled email address has been added to the account . Also BT have told me verbally yesterday that the debt has been written off. And I owe BT nothing, however Moorcroft as suggest owe them and the account still active. Telephone BT back to send a letter that we owe nothing and the debt has been written off (asuming the debt company has paid for the debt)
If we are liable for the debt forgive my misconception shouldnt we still be dealing with BT? If the call was stated that we were on the rolling contract after the original one ended and missus made that clear then how would we Proceed?
Moorcroft are adding charges to the original amount and have agreed to freeze the account , whilst they speak to BT
Which is the best way forward ?

Hi,
Moorcroft only manage accounts on behalf of there clients, they do not buy debts.
This is still owned by BT so any charges are been added by them.

Made a complaint to BT, Details are:
Missus internet went down 27th Jan after previous account holder left (he cancelled BT account found out later) and called to fix. (Details unclear asked for original sales call)
Missus recieved a call feb and for Mar chasing for payment - Paid both then informed BT that no longer want the service and that going to sky.
Sky came and installed line (same number) see below for explanation. April 2018,
June came and final demand notice from BT for end of service, then missus said many calls came in and it was harrassing . She suggested that she will be speaking to ofcom
September2018 a moorcroft letter demanding money.
Spoke to BT today they said a sales call on 27th January , but no DD details were said and that the complaint would be escalated, and two lines installed both on same number, sky should of switched services instead of installing new line. Missus believed she was still paying for old contract not new (naive to think so)
How do i deal with moorcroft ? Do i keep dealing with BT until complaint resolved ?0 -
If it was me, I would write to BT, to make the official complaint, so that a paper trail begins. They will reply to you, also in writing.
- You have stated that BT said to you that the debt was to be written off.
- You need to raise this issue in your complaint.
- You have also suggested that BT have said you were on a rolling contract at the time of your cancellation of service, possibly implying that you were not required to 'buy out' the remainder of any contract. You need to raise this issue in your written complaint.
As far as Moorcroft is concerned. I would also write to them, to let them know the debt is currently being disputed, and request they place your account in hold, subject to a resolution of the complaint.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0
