Thanks everyone for your interesting points.

I was just thinking of the 'consumables' that we buy every time we go shopping like tinned food, toilet roll, and loads of tea bags!

The only thing that bothers me really is if I do bulk buy what if the price goes down even further at a later date?

After all the price of baked beans can go down as well as up lol.

Prices an go down as well as up, but if you stick to buying 2 for 1 and half price offeres the price of one item is unlikely to drop by half in the future.

My local somerfield was selling big times of roses and quality street not long ago. The sign said they had been £9.99 but are now only £4.99. They had big palets of them by the front door and they were going like hot cakes.

After the offer was over the price only went up to £5.99, so all those people who thought they were getting them half price, weren't.

They didn't work, that's what happens when you buy cheap condoms :D

Deary, deary me - DS arrived after we had used up our stock. And there is no way I am telling you how long it took us to use up all the condoms :p

Perhaps I should have brought a greater stock - the use by date was ages away. But I wouldn't part with DS for the world!

Thanks Geordie I did't think of that.

I was thinking of things like Lidls selling a 4 pack of Heinz beans for a quid.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere on this site that deals with the current food shopping deals so I know where to shop.

I know Tesco do the price comparisson thing but I don't trust them!

The price book thing is supposed to be brilliant to let you know when it is a good deal - though don't write prices down in the shop, use memory/receipts.

If you don't mind doing the clicking, you could try those shops with online shopping and compare Asda, Sainsburys and Tescos. That will give prices and it is not compulsory to order if you view their site :)

I am watching this thread with interest, because I want to try and only stock up on really good deals. Every time I open the cupboards I see a huge stack of Fray Bentos pies (which we quite like now and again and were a steal at two for one) and a stack of tinned chick peas (3 for 2 - offer still on 18 months later!).

I am desperate to get it right!

We have been bulk buying for years at Morrisons and else where.

Even when we had a small kitchen we would stock on tins, pop, toliet rolls, tolieters and store them in large plastic storage boxes that you store toys in and keep in shed.

We now have more room and store things in garage on shelves, we also have another freezer now so use that to both freezers are almost full

We tend to buy offers that last a few weeks we get some we may use in short term and a couple for weeks to come and keep dong this until offer ends which usually only a few weeks anyhow

I don't know of one, but did see a link in here somewhere for a site that listed the best beer/lager deals.

It might help if you list the shops you can shop at. Some, like Tesco have online shopping where you can check the prices but most don't.

I've just done a quick search and found a somerfield offers site, which I didn't know about but will be using regularly from now on.

    http://www.somerfield.co.uk/offers/index.asp?vccpsource=google

And this site seems to compare prices at 4 supermarket.

    http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/FirstTimeHome.aspx

Reading the help file is seems you shop at one store and whenyou add items to your basket it checks the other stores to see if they are cheaper there.

You can go to www.mysupermarket.com I use this on a daily basis pick either sainsburys tesco asda to do compare the prices it will let you know which deals are cheaper and how much you can save, I have never used it to order my goods I just use it to check the deals. It is accurate.

I never pay more than 25p for Heinz beans I usually buy them four in a pack (Iceland at the moment) I never spend more than 26p for each roll of Velvet toilet paper, and soap powder I only use the top brands and will not spend if I can help it more than £1 a Kilo, I have 12 boxes of ariel sat in the utility room this was a recent offer from Tesco which worked out less than £1 a kilo. I have been very successful and what I do Is bulk buy I have a big house my friends and neighbours laugh at me and poke fun But that's fine like I say to them If a war ever breaks out I bet they will be the first to knock my door!!

I bulk buy all the time. Tissues, bogroll, washing powder, fabric conditioner etc

Costco had bogof on an 8 pack of boxed facial tissues for £5.40ish. That's 16 boxes of decent tissue for £5.40. I have the (mis)pleasure of 1 missus, 2 girls and countless female visitors who seem to devour boxed tissue and bogrolls!

I used to get irritated at the price of tissues and then we discovered a shop called Quality Save. They sell the better quality tissues - the thicker ones sometimes called balsam - for about 45p. We bulk buy those and any other cheapies they have on the day. They are always very busy. They also sell very fine quality chocolate at very low prices like 39p and it really is the best I have ever had. Trouble is they run out of things very quickly. Lidl sells an unusual toilet roll. It is very thick and costs about £3 for a dozen. Next door to Quality Save is Wilkinsons and when they discount things they do it with a vengeance e.g. 75% off. Earlier this year I got masses of seeds (mad gardener) all 75%off. We always bulk buy tea etc when they are bogof.

If you log onto Madaboutbargains (sorry, haven't learnt how to do a link yet) there is a thread called Off your Trolley which tells you which supermarkets are doing Bogof or half price etc.

I'll have a look Dee. We are surrounded by supermarkets - sounds like an awful district but it's excellent really. We have two Morrisons, Tesco, Netto Lidl and Aldi if you count the last three.
