Chelsea Building Society v Woolwich

Hi, can anybody help. I could do with any good or bad reviews about either using the Chelsea Building Society or Woolwich for remortgaging.

  • There have been loads of threads and posts about Woolwich poor service standards for remortgaging over the past few weeks... just type 'woolwich' in the search (make sure you set it to search forums!). Could do the same with Chelsea... ;)

    HTH :D

    Oh and welcome to MSE!!

Personally I would not touch Woolwich at the moment, if the deal is good, and the case is 100% straightforward, and you have total confidence in your broker that they can put the application in without any missing information which woolwich will query then maybe, but there are better alternatives.

Why are you limiting yourself to these two lenders?

If you want fast tracking, you have under 80% Loan To Value and you are squeeky clean, can prove income then woolwich are good and can put an offer out very quickly.
If you have to keep on corresponding with woolwich, It usually takes about 1 hour to get through to woolich over the phone which is appalling.
Just make sure you get whole of market advice to get the best deal

  • Woolwich have a service issue at the mo! Chelsea are normally good but I have not used them for 2 months.

  • Just organised my own mortgage with Woolwich and it was pretty smooth and quickly dealt with. Never had to hang on for upto an hour when phoning on numerous occassions (5 minutes was about average). I am not a mortgage advisor but I hope this helps.

The Chelsea deal is slightly better. I am considering a Life ime tracker at base + 17 points. I called Chelsea and the guy didn't know about this, he said it is possible that they do mortgages like this - probably only available through intermediaries, which got the offer for me

Some lenders do broker deals, C&G have better deals via brokers! Good luck!

Hi. I have been in contact with 2 intermediaries and my options are determined by their recommendations. I am a contractor so my employment status whould have to be taken into account. The Woolwich deal seems good, although the Chelsea is slightly better.
