Different prize to what I entered for

Ok so maybe I am wrong in this but I entered a competition on Twitter to win a His and Hers Halloween make up kit, which I was chosen and announced as the winner.
Sent over my details as requested and waited...today I got a signed for package with a haloween blood choker and A pack with some sparkly blood stickers for your face...
I did not enter anything like this but knew I was waiting for the prize I have just mentioned so contacted them to see if they sent it...
They replied and said they did sent it and that there were two winners selected for two different prizes but as I told them I was NOT told there was a different prize than the one I entered this was not stated to me at all...
They told me I could send it back if I was not happy and I told them I would not be sending it back I was just annoyed that I did not get the prize I entered and thought I won..This is the last message just sent to me.

I'm aware that you may not have been told there was another prize but you've still won a free Halloween gift.

Am I wrong for complaining?
Thank you to everyone for posting the competitions and i wish you all the best of luck

When I first started comping I won a pair of Vivienne Westwood shoes about £400+ at the time, they sent me a Vivienne Westwood purse instead, when I questioned it, they said they had no shoes left and were entitled to send me an alternative prize, even though the purse was only £95. It is the only time it has ever happened, but they too made me feel I should be grateful I got something for free! xx
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

  • i won a VIP experience for 10 people including drinks at an Oktoberfest event in my local town.
This included a table in front of the stage with food/drinks and waiter/waitress service.

When i went to register my details via the link, it stated 'Sold out'.

I contacted them and they said that there was only 1 prize and somebody else had claimed it?!

I questioned further and apparently... they had assumed that it would be hard work trying to find somebody who could actually attend at short notice so they sent the same 'winners' e-mail to 10 different people on a first come first served basis (without mentioning it)....

    Not cool....

I think what these people who run social media competition forget is that there is actually rules to doing so!

I have read many, many t&c's over the years, and almost every reputable company will say in their conditions that if the prize isn't available, one of equal or greater value will be provided.

Also, they should state the rules, the prize and the competition end date.

Have you looked back through their twitter account, checked other posts re the competition, is there any mention of 2 prizes or 2 winners?

I mean, I'm not sure there really 'is' anything you can do other than report them to twitter for breaching their rules. and even at that, I don't know if twitter would do anything about it.
