Paid training?

Hello I’m looking for a bit of advice; I work as a support worker in people’s own homes under a zero hour contract.
My employer has changed the way we do our yearly training courses, which ensure we’re up to date with latest care guidelines, so that now we have to attend a 7 hour course twice a year in our main office, unpaid. This means either losing a full days pay or having to attend in your own time and effectly losing your day off.
I’ve tried to find out whether or not this is legal as all other places I’ve worked we have been paid for training, but found nothing on google.
Can anyone shed some light on the matter?

    the issue you have is you're zero hours. So whilst there could be some debate on the matter. If you refuse, they simply don't offer you any more work.

    And, depending on what sort of training it is, if you haven't completed it by a certain date, maybe they can't offer you any more work after that date.

    Sorry OP, it's completely legal to make completion of some sort of training/qualification a prerequisite for a job, and that training/qualification be undertaken/obtained in the candidates' own time & at their own expense - there's no requirement for the company to pay.
