Is it worth getting a 12 month season ticket if you may refund it within 6 months?

Start a new job in thursday and have given up a company car to switch employment. I will be seeking out and obtaining my own car but am in no particular rush as the new office is a 2 min walk from the train station and I can get to my home station each morning very easily. As such I will be waiting for the right deal on a lease car.

It is significantly cheaper to purchase a 12 month season ticket over the equivalent monthly cost, what I can’t work out is would I be better off doing this if I then wanted to refund the unused part when I get a car? This could be 3,6 or even 9 months from now.

Is there a formula I can use to work it out?
