URGENT APPEAL ON BEHALF OF THE POPPY APPEAL.

Having typed the word "Poppy" into facebooks market place app. I am appalled by the amount of people that are being allowed to sell FAKE POPPY merchandise, some sellers stating that a percentage is going to the RBL, others giving nothing, some even stating that the money is going to a non military charity.
I urge you to spread the word to your families, friends, and friends of friends. Help us to stop these people from profiteering and stealing money away from the POPPY APPEAL, and to only purchase your merchandise via the www.POPPYSHOP.ORG.UK or a LOCAL POPPY APPEAL COLLECTION POINT for the next 2 weeks.

I've seen that on ebay too, BoP.

Last year, I bought 3 lovely brooches from the RBL website that me, my sister and friend all wear year-round on our coats.

I'm calling in my local Tesco on the way up to see my sister to see if I can get the WW1 Centenary pin badge.
I always buy a pin badge with the year on it too.

You're right. Way too many people flogging poppy stuff in recent years, without a care or thought that the money's supposed to go through the Poppy Fund as the whole point of it is to fund ex soldiers etc, not line people's pockets for their own "home business".

Only buy proper poppies, from old dears, at official spots.
  • Same for the like-farming Facebook posts, urging folk to like and share a picture of tommies, the false information about poppy-selling being banned somewhere, or to pass on the address for "a recovering soldier" Christmas card.
It is always worth checking what you're sharing and finding out who really benefits. There are too many instances of these where the page will be rebranded and sold on when there are enough followers, and some look very plausible.

My poppies were sold to me yesterday by a charming black lab, who brought her owner along to carry the tray. Free ear-wuffles into the bargain too:D

I'm amazed how many eBay sellers are selling quite clearly for their own profit. Things like silicon wristbands, customised poppies, even polo shirts!!!

I will get my poppy where I always do, the local Supermarket where it is properly managed and the people running it are legitimate.

I'm ex service so always buy from legit or donating towards BL

This year I've got a knitted one, 50/50 split between the charity I volunteer at & BL. There's also BL poppy tray there for any that want plain ones.

That BL poppy collecting tin was stolen last year:mad:

Oh, that is just beyond contemptible! How people who steal from charity live with themselves is beyond me.

We have to pop into town tomorrow, so with luck there'll be the usual contingent of veterans selling poppies, and we can purchase our from one of them.

You mean like the one I bought at the M&S counter in 2015? :D

It was £15 and draws looks of admiration as it is so pretty, but on the other hand it doesn't help the cause more than once. Time to buy a new one I think.

"old dears"? I bought my poppy from a group of smartly dressed, well-turned out, mature, gentlemen - very enjoyable to meet :o:o:D

Did 100% of the profits go to RBL?
I didn't think the M&S ones did but I may be wrong.

There are some very pretty brooches on the RBL website.

100% of the profit does go to RBL.
This one looks even nicer than that for £14.99 plus postage.
