i was wondering if there was something I could spray them with. I've tried going over them with brown paper but they still shine.

  • Try wetting a tea-towal and then wringing it out. Place on top of the affected area and iron as normal.
We always got told to iron our work trousers with a dry tea-towel to avoid shiney marks but it actually left them and I have always used a damp one since. It usually takes the marks out for me.

I've re-washed them then while wet placed a damp tea towel over them before ironing, worked for me.

To be honest, I think it's permanent. The trousers are probably man-made, and by ironing them on too hot a setting, you've slightly melted the fabric, leaving a permanent shine.

Maybe suggest it's the latest fashion - shiny trousers :rotfl:

I can't help on this one, sorry because I have never managed to undo this kind of damage myself. But for future reference I highly recommend the Easy Iron mesh £1.99 from Betterware (also seen something similar 2 for £1 in Home Bargains but don't know about quality or size). It's a large lightweight mesh which you place over the garment. Lighter than a t-towel but leaves no shiny marks.:T
  • one they're shiny, that's it.

my mum always told me to iron the trousers inside out. you might need the iron a little hotter to get stubborn creases out but they'll only be shiny on the inside then!
  • I hate having to be the bearer of bad news, but I have to agree with the above posters. Its a common male ironing newbie mistake.

However, if he's only done it once and not for too long at the maximum temperature setting, you might get away with it over repeated washings and cool inside-out ironings.

Another trouser ironing tip: don't try to match the existing creases. All you will do is create so-called "tram lines". The same goes for shirt sleeves as well.

  • I once saw on TV that you could solve this by rubbing with a penny (for quite a long time) No idea if it works though as never tried
