NHS Sick Pay

Hey :)

I have been off work for 5 months with mental health problems. I had an occupational health appointment this week to review my fitness to work. I was expecting him to sign me back and start a phased return but he says I'm still too unstable and I'm looking at another 2-3 months before I can return.

My pay goes from full pay to half pay on the 15th November. My income is our families sole source of money at the moment and we have a 2 year old boy too.

Do any of you know if this has SSP on top or is it simply just half of what I was getting for the previous 5 months?

Do you know of any benefits I may be entitled to during the next few months until I can go back to work?

Thank you,

Lucee

Unless I am out of date, after 6 months SSP stops but you become eligible to claim ESA.

So you would get half of your normal NHS gross salary (which is obviously far more than half net due to reduced tax) plus ESA if eligible (and I think you would be) directly from the government.

After a few months you will have to attend an ESA medical assessment. That assesses you fitness for any work, not your fitness for your present job so you may not qualify from that point onward.

Your employer should issue you with the appropriate information and forms, although they are available online.
